Anne Ngirita rejected by Jubilee Party after decamping from UDA
Anne Ngirita has been rejected by the Jubilee Party after decamping from the UDA Nakuru woman representative seat.
Anne Ngirita’s political ambitions to become the next woman representative in Nakuru county have been thwarted due to the multi-million dollar National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.
This comes after the Jubilee Party turned down her plea to run on its ticket for the seat currently held by Liza Chelule in the August elections.
The Jubilee party led by President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed the 32-year-old to first get clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) before seeking its ticket.
After defecting from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which is owned by Deputy President William Ruto, Anne Ngirita ran for the ruling party’s ticket.
She told journalists on Tuesday, February 15, at the Jubilee Party Nakuru branch offices that she joined UDA because of peer pressure and then reversed her decision after Uhuru’s call for unity.
“I did not intend to join UDA but I did that out of peer pressure. It’s not a party I want to be associated with.
When Raila and Uhuru asked us to “return” home, I thought it was okay for us to heed their call,” she stated.
Anne Ngirita NYS scandal
Anne Ngirita was adversely mentioned and charged over the NYS phase two scandal.
The young tender-preneur, by her own right, got paid KSh 59 million for supplying nothing to NYS between 2015 and 2018.
She was charged alongside her brother, Jeremiah Gichini Ngirita, sister Phylis Njeri Ngirita and mother, Lucy Wambui Ngitira, who received varying amounts from the KSh 8 billion NYS money.
