According to reports, the victims are believed to be tourists who were on board the caravan plane when it went down in the morning hours.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has confirmed the incident, stating that the aircraft, registration number 5Y-CCA, was on its way from Diani to Kichwa Tembo when it crashed.
“Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) wishes to confirm that an aircraft registration number 5Y-CCA, on its way from Diani to Kichwa Tembo, crashed at 0530Z. The aircraft had 12 persons on board,” KCAA stated in a press release.
The aviation authority added that government agencies are already on site to establish the cause of the accident and its impact.
The cause of the crash was not immediately established, with investigations expected to determine what led to the tragic accident.
Police and other emergency service providers rushed to the scene shortly after the crash, according to residents.
The airline operates regular flights between Mombasa and other tourist destinations across the country, serving local and international tourists visiting Kenya’s coastal and safari regions.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the victims or provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the crash.

In a similar incident in Kwale in June, two Kenya Air Force pilots died after being involved in a plane crash in Viramboni village, Ndavaya.
The aircraft, a Grob 120A model, encountered an emergency while on a training flight around midday on June 14, 2025, resulting in the fatal accident.
“Earlier today, 14th June 2025, a Kenya Air Force Grob 120A aircraft experienced an emergency while on a training flight in the general area of Mwakijembe Primary School, Ndavaya, Kwale County. On Board were two pilots. Recovery is ongoing,” the Kenya Defence Forces said in a statement.
Kwale County Commissioner Stephen Orinde confirmed the June incident and stated that investigations had been launched to establish the cause of the crash.
Emergency response teams, including KAF crash investigators, were deployed to the scene for search and recovery operations.
