The crash involved a Nissan matatu and a truck ferrying logs.

Central Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati said the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

“15 people died on the spot, while others were taken to hospitals,” he said.

Police reports indicate the lorry swerved to avoid cyclists, causing the collision. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.

Initial reports had suggested 10 fatalities, but authorities later confirmed the death toll had risen to 15. Emergency responders were deployed immediately to assist the victims and secure the scene.

The accident comes as the country continues to battle high numbers of road traffic incidents. Earlier, seven people died in separate accidents, including four pedestrians, two riders, and a pedal cyclist.

At least 14 others sustained serious injuries and were admitted to various hospitals.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly in areas prone to heavy traffic and pedestrian activity.
