Four Al-Shabaab terrorists have been killed following a high-stakes operation by the elite Special Operations Group (SOG) in the Najo and Guracho areas of Garissa County.

In a statement on Monday, June 2, Counter Terrorism Policing Kenya said the coordinated counter-terrorism effort led to the recovery of a cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, a PKM machine gun, and several rounds of ammunition.

Additionally, CTP attributed the success of the operation to a meticulously planned intelligence-led operation.”

“The militants were first spotted by a surveillance drone, after which SOG units tracked and engaged them. A fierce exchange of fire ensued, resulting in four terrorists being eliminated.

“Recovered at the scene were AK-47 rifles, a PKM machine gun, multiple rounds of ammunition, and communication radios,” the statement read.

CTP said the strike is part of a sustained campaign to dismantle Al-Shabaab networks operating along the Kenya–Somalia border and within the northeastern region.

“This marks yet another major victory in a series of well-coordinated operations that continue to cripple Al-Shabaab activity.

“The SOG, in close collaboration with other security agencies and the local community, remains unwavering in its mission to safeguard the lives and security of Kenyans,” the statement added.

Mohamed was directly linked to Ali Salim Gichunge, the lead attacker in the Dusit D2 operation, while Hussein was linked to Gichunge’s wife, Violet Kemunto.

“Mohamed was linked to Ali Salim Gichunge, a lead attacker in the Dusit D2 Complex attack, while Hussein was found to have facilitated Violet Kemunto, Gichunge’s wife, and played a role in the foiled Merti attack.

“Their conviction sends a strong message to those aiding terrorists, it’s only a matter of time before the law catches up with you,” the statement read.
