KNEC makes changes in the administration of KCSE 2022 to curb the new form of cheating
KNEC makes changes in the administration of KCSE 2022 to curb the new form of cheating.
The Kenyan National Examination Council (KNEC) announced new measures aimed at taming new forms of cheating in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Addressing the media on Friday, December 2, KNEC CEO, David Njeng’ere, indicated that second-session papers would be placed in the exam rooms while students sit for their first tests.
He suggested that the action was taken to allay worries about some schools pre-exposing exam materials.
The KNEC boss went on to say that the students, monitors, and police officers would all guard the papers.
He also mentioned that the council has altered the timing for making the exam papers available.
“The containers will be open at 7 am and not 6 am as was earlier being done. Therefore centres have a shorter time with the scripts,” Njeng’ere asserted.
He also cautioned students against cheating on exams and mentioned that the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was keeping an eye on how they behaved and used the internet.
Over 20 phones were seized on the first day of the national exams, with Garissa county being the hardest hit, according to Njeng’ere.
The head of the exam said that a specialized team of investigators was looking through the phones to see if the exams had been leaked to the pupils.
“KNEC officials did an exemplary job before the students could use them. Those phones are with the DCI for analysis and if the students are found culpable, we shall deal with it as per the guidelines,” he stated.
In order to address this, he announced that students will be thoroughly frisked before exams to check for the presence of illegal goods.
These regulations are a part of other policies that the test organization issued earlier, such as the prohibition on giving teachers and invigilators extra exam papers.
The KCSE started on December 1 and will end on December 23.
