KRA records Ksh2 trillion revenue collection in nine months
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced that it has surpassed the Ksh2 trillion mark in cumulative revenue collection by the close of the third quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, collecting Ksh2.038 trillion.
KRA Commissioner General, Humphrey Wattanga, in an announcement released on Tuesday, April 7, credited the performance to reforms that simplified tax processes and integrated digital solutions across the authority.
“Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has surpassed the Ksh2 trillion mark in cumulative revenue collection by the close of the third quarter of FY2025/26, collecting Ksh2.038 trillion as at 31st March 2026 against a target of Ksh2.122 trillion,” KRA announced.
“The upward trajectory from Ksh1.829 trillion collected over the same period in FY 2024/25 signals the resilience of the economy and resilience in revenue mobilisation.”
During the period, customs operations achieved a 100.9 per cent performance rate and collected Ksh733.7 billion, up from Ksh647.6 billion in the same period last year.
At the same time, domestic taxes remained the largest contributor, yielding Ksh1.301 trillion, a 10.4 per cent growth over the same period last year.

Revenue collected on behalf of other government entities reached Ksh204.5 billion, recording a 10.7 per cent growth from the previous year.
Exchequer revenue for the National Treasury fell slightly short, totalling Ksh1.834 trillion, reflecting a performance rate of 95.5 per cent against the set target.
According to KRA, the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) strengthened invoice visibility and curbed VAT fraud schemes.
Additionally, KRA said that the GavaConnect Developer Portal, KRA’s enterprise API platform, now has over 2,500 developers on board, allowing businesses and fintech providers to embed tax services directly into daily business systems.
“The performance reflects deliberate institutional reforms aimed at simplifying compliance, deepening digital integration, and embedding tax administration more seamlessly within everyday economic activity through data-driven administration,” KRA added.
KRA also unveiled a WhatsApp-based tax filing service powered by the Shuru AI chatbot, which lets taxpayers access pre-filled details, file returns, generate invoices, and obtain compliance certificates directly through the messaging app.
