Police have launched investigations into the gruesome murder of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer by unknown people in the Seme area of Kisumu County.

According to the local authorities, the KDF officer was attacked on Saturday morning alongside another man while they were heading home from Asat Beach.

The two were ambushed and attacked by the assailants, who hit both of them with sharp objects, leaving them with serious cuts on the head and limbs.

The 46-year-old, who was attached to Embakasi barracks, was rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital. He, however, succumbed to injuries upon his arrival at the hospital.

While the KDF officer succumbed at around 4am, the other man survived and is currently recuperating at the same facility with serious wounds.

Following his death, the body of the deceased was transferred from JOORH to Kwea Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.

Addressing the press hours after the incident, West Othany Assistant Chief Richard Jaoko disclosed security agencies had begun investigations into the attack.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), working in conjunction with police officers from Kombewa Police Station, visited the scene.

Members of the public with information regarding the incident have been urged to come forward and provide details to aid in the ongoing investigation.
