Amina Halake, wife of former presidential candidate Abduba Dida, has announced her intention to run for president in the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Monday, July 28, Halake revealed she will vie for the top seat under the Alliance for Real Change party.

She noted that she has experience in running a presidential campaign, having served as the party’s Secretary General.

“I was the party secretary general and his wife at the same time. I was involved in almost everything, campaigning, his welfare at home, so there is nothing I don’t know about campaigning, the strategy, and all that,” said Halake.

The presidential aspirant went on to say she is a fresh politician and is capable of bringing the change the country needs.

“I am not a recycled leader, I am fresh blood, and I have suffered injustices at the hands of the previous five presidents. I understand the dynamics of politics being a close contact of a former aspirant. I think I fit the bill, I am capable, and I bring the change the country needs,” she stated.

Further, Halake said if elected, she will be a listening president and will serve Kenyans as they deserve.

Additionally, she said she would give Gen Z government positions that they will be able to handle.

“I will make sure Gen Zs occupy the offices they believe they can handle because we have so many professionals and learned Gen Zs, and everybody is an asset to this country. I will always be the listening president. I am not a ruler; I am a servant. I will serve them as they deserve,” Halake added.

Her husband, Dida, unsuccessfully vied for President in the 2013 and 2017 general elections, losing both elections to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In 2021, Dida was sentenced to 7 years in jail after being found guilty of stalking and intimidation in the US.

He was, however, released in April 2025 after serving for 3 years at the Big Muddy Correctional Centre.

Halake is the latest individual to declare 2027 presidential ambitions after singer Reuben Kigame, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, former Chief Justice David Maraga, and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah.
