Activist Shakira Wafula has announced her resignation from David Maraga’s Presidential Campaign Political Committee.
In a statement on Monday, November 17, Wafula said she made the decision to resign from her position as secretary of the political committee after deep reflection.
“After careful reflection, I have chosen to resign from my position effective immediately as Secretary of the Political Committee and from all responsibilities associated with the campaign,” read the statement in part.
She cited differences in foundational values and priorities as the reason for stepping down from Maraga’s team.
“While the campaign advances the slogan ‘Reset, Restore, and Rebuild,’ I believe that truly achieving these ideals requires deeper alignment on foundational values and priorities. As our paths diverge on these principles, I hope my decision encourages meaningful reflection and a renewed commitment to the integrity, transparency, and ethical leadership that the slogan aspires to represent,” Wafula stated.
The activist also expressed gratitude to Maraga for the opportunity to serve in his presidential campaign team.

She noted that the opportunity provided her with valuable insights into political functions and steps to build a better country.
“My proximity to the campaign secretariat has provided valuable, real-time insight into how our politics function and the steps we must collectively take to build a better Kenya; one that genuinely upholds the rule of law, accountability, and good governance,” Wafula said.
Further, she extended her best wishes to the remaining members of the Maraga campaign team, urging them to pursue their work with integrity and a shared commitment to serving the people of Kenya.
“I remain committed to a Kenya where public service is anchored in integrity, accountability, and the consistent practice of good governance for all citizens,” Wafula concluded.
The activist came into the limelight during the June 2024 anti-finance bill protests in Nairobi CBD.
Wafula went viral after she was recorded along Cardinal Otunga Road daring a police officer to move her.
“I’m here for Kenyans, I’m here for my people, I’m here for your rights. Nitoe, Nitoe baba, Sitoki!” Shakita told the officer, who looked frustrated.
The video made her a household name during the protests, with Kenyans praising her for her bravery and standing up for her rights.
On Monday, July 28, Maraga appointed Wafula to his campaign team, alongside six others: Carolyne Kiarie, Gloria Michira, Lewis Ngunyi, Nyamisa Chelagat, Shallet Kutment, and Susan Lumumba.
