Nine police officers injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
Nine Kenyan police officers were injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasted their cars while on patrol near the Welmerer district in Garissa on Saturday, March 9.
Two armored police cars were blasted and rendered unstable during the around 5:30 am attack.
According to reports, the police officers sustained major and minor injuries to various body parts.
The injuries ranged from the head, neck, chest, right limbs, and back injuries.
Four officers incurred major injuries on the neck and arms, while one of the four broke both his legs.
The other five officers sustained minor injuries, on the hands and legs, while one of the five got hurt on the head as well.
All the officers have so far been discharged after receiving treatment from medical officers at one of the camps in the area.

A Quick Reaction Force (QRF), has since been launched in the area to pursue the militants in efforts to stabilise security in the area.
Police officers on March 2 recovered several IEDs, funds, and other explosives while acting on a tip from members of the public about Al-Shabaab militants terrorizing the Fafi area in Garissa.
According to the officials responding to the incident, the officers recovered mobile phones and SIM cards.
The intelligence-led operation caught the Al-Shabaab militants by surprise as they crossed into Kenya headed to Fafi from a hideout when they were ambushed.
During the operation, five of the suspected al-Shabaab militants were shot dead while four others were apprehended to assist with further investigations.
