Alai breaks silence over claims of grabbing land in Runda

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has come out to defend himself over claims of grabbing land in Nairobi’s Runda Estate.
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has come out to defend himself over claims of grabbing land in Nairobi’s Runda Estate.
In a statement on Monday, June 30, Alai clarified that the land dispute is currently before the Environment and Land Court and was filed by Cancer Investments Limited.
Alai accused Cancer Investments Limited Director Ahmed Mukhtar of maligning his character on social media since filing the lawsuit.
“Since the filing of this lawsuit, Ahmed Mukhtar, Cancer Investments, and their lawyer have engaged in a deliberate and sustained effort to malign my character and reputation through inflammatory statements and unfounded allegations in the public domain.
“This conduct, which has continued unabated despite the matter being active before a competent court, appears designed to prejudice the judicial process and secure favorable orders through public pressure rather than legal merit,” read the statement in part.
The Kileleshwa MCA alleged that Mukthar paid at least goons to storm the property and blame it on him so that the court could rule in his favor.
“Knowing that the matter is comping in court this morning, Ahmed Mukhtar who has previously hired 500 goons to destroy the property in the same piece while the matter is alive in court and has approached at least 6 other criminals to effect his illegalities, has sustained his acts of bullying of myself and the courts to push the court to rule in his favour,” Alai claimed.
Alai warned Mukthar that he would be exposed to a defamation lawsuit if he continued to malign his name.
Further, the MCA expressed confidence that the judiciary would give a fair judgment regarding the ownership of the disputed piece of land in Runda.
“I have complied with all court orders, including the temporary injunction issued on 19th May 2025, and have filed my responses within the stipulated timelines. I trust that the court will address the Plaintiff’s claims, which include significant evidential gaps and procedural inconsistencies, as noted in prior proceedings,” Alai stated.
Additionally, he assured the Kileleshwa residents that the land dispute would not distract him from serving them.
“I remain resolute in my determination to defend my rights and reputation through lawful means. I am confident that the truth will prevail in court, and I will continue to serve my constituents with integrity and dedication,” he concluded.

His statement comes after a viral video showed goons storming the contested land and forcibly ejecting Mukhtar from the property.
Addressing the media after the incident, Mukhtar, who was accompanied by his lawyer, Harrisson Kinyanjui, stated that he had purchased the property in 1992.
He claimed that he filed a lawsuit against Alai after the Kileleshwa MCA chased him out of the property on March 31, 2025.
“In July 1992, I bought the property in Runda, which has been taken over by hooligans associated with Robert Alai.
“On March 31, 2025, I found Robert Alai on my property, and he chased me away from it. Immediately, I talked to my lawyers and we filed a suit,” Mukhtar stated.
The Cancer Investments Limited director also stated that he obtained a court order halting his removal from the property, but claimed that Alai has refused to comply with it.
“Immediately after filing the suit, we got injunctive orders and from May 19 up to today, Robert Alai has failed to honor the orders,’ Mukhar added.
