Speaking from his home in Homa Bay County on Monday, June 16, 2025, Meshack said the decision was necessary given the national attention his son’s death has drawn.
“I have not set the date for the sendoff of my son because I am waiting to ensure my son gets the justice that he deserves,” he said.
Albert Ojwang, a teacher and blogger, died in police custody earlier this month after being arrested in connection with a social media post.
His death has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for accountability coming from the public and leaders alike.
Meshack expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from Kenyans.
“I have a small home, and I’m sure I will be receiving many visitors during the sendoff due to the large public interest this has generated,” he said.
He appealed for further assistance from well-wishers as the family continues preparations for the burial.
“I therefore call upon anyone willing to help from the public, as more is yet to be done,” he added.

Family spokesperson Kenneth Ouma addressed misinformation circulating in the media. He clarified that the family had not filed a joint petition with any political group, as some reports had claimed.
“We want to say clearly that we are not part of that petition. We don’t know who filed it. Our lawyer is not aware, and the lawyer has written to the magistrate to clarify that Muse is not the second petitioner, as indicated in the media,” Ouma said.
He added that the family welcomes anyone who wishes to mourn with them or contribute to support burial arrangements.
“We have an official family support channel. We have a paybill number and a bank account,” Ouma said.
The official Paybill number is 4699944, and the family is urging the public to be cautious of potential scammers pretending to collect donations on their behalf.
