All new government employees to go through NYS; CS Kuria

Public Service CS Moses Kuria proposes to have all new government employees to go through the National Youth Service (NYS)

Public Service CS Moses Kuria proposes to have all new government employees to go through the National Youth Service (NYS).

Speaking on Wednesday, October 25 in Ruaraka, CS Kuria said the move will allow the government to trace back its employees.

“My dream is to have recruits to go through NYS before being employed by the government so that these people who are going to be in the Ministry of Labour, Water or even Land we make sure we can trace them back,” said Kuria.

CS vowed to push the proposal in the Cabinet to be approved.

“I want to ensure that I push this policy and I am going to present a cabinet memo for Cabinet to approve that any new hiring in the public service people to come with NYS certificates,” he added.

At the same time, CS Kuria said all civil servants must retire at the age of sixty years.

“When one reaches the age of sixty, please go home, there are others who, when they reach fifty-eight, remember they have disabilities and hence extend their time.

“I am waiting for a report of those people who are misusing our generosity, the President has said it very clearly that when one reaches the age of sixty, they should go home and stop looking for other reasons,” said Kuria.

The Public Service CS further announced that the next National Police Service (NPS) and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) recruitment will be exclusively from NYS.

In addition, the Public Service Cabinet Secretary revealed plans to create a call centre that will handle complaints from Kenyans regarding service delivery by government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The CS indicated that the call centre will also be available to motorists to allow them to report police officers who collect bribes on the roads.

He further revealed that the centre will also serve Kenyans with complaints about electricity connection by Kenya Power.

According to Kuria, the call centre will be based at the NYS headquarters and will be operated by officers from the paramilitary unit.

“I am going to have a big office and call centre to analyse those complaints and it will be here at NYS. I will come here every morning to see where there are complaints. The servicemen will monitor it,” he stated.

“I am going to give Kenyans a chance to say what they think of us.”
