AMREF reveals identities of crew who perished in Mwihoko plane crash
AMREF Flying Doctors has paid tribute to four of its team members who died after being involved in a plane crash in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.
AMREF Flying Doctors has paid tribute to four of its team members who died after being involved in a plane crash in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.
The accident occurred on Thursday, August 7.
The team had left the Wilson Airport in Nairobi and was en route to Somalia on a medical rescue mission when their aircraft tumbled into a house in Mwihoko.
They were on board a Cessna Citation XLS.
The quartet died on the spot; two other people inside the house the plane crashed on also died.
Below are the deceased AMREF members;
Captain Muthuka Munuve
The pilot, until his death, had worked with AMREF Flying Doctors for six years and nine months.
He was a captain and check pilot on both the ill-fated Cessna Citation XLS and Pilatus PC-12.
According to AMREF. Munuve had achieved over 10,000 flight hours at the time of his death.
The organisation recognised him for leading every medical mission with “calm precision, unwavering commitment to safety, and the highest standards of airmanship.”
Captain Brian Kimani Miaro
Captain Miaro worked with AMREF Flying Doctors for three years and nine months.
AMREF recognised him as “an accomplished instructor captain on the Pilatus PC-12.”
In the course of his service, he transitioned to become a check pilot.
At the time of his death, he had amassed over 5,800 flight hours.
AMREF recognised him for his expertise in every mission, and flying with exceptional skill, unwavering professionalism, and steadfast dedication.

Nurse Jane Rispah Aluoch Omusula
She had served AMREF for four years and eight months.
AMREF eulogised her as a “highly skilled emergency flight nurse, Jane provided lifesaving care with deep compassion, remarkable courage, and a steady presence in the most critical of moments. Her dedication brought comfort and hope to countless patients.”
Dr. Charles Mugo Njoroge
Dr. Njoroge’s service at AMREF was cut short after seven years and eight months.
He was eulogised as a dedicated practitioner who served with dignity and compassion
“A devoted medical doctor, Dr. Njoroge brought healing, hope, and expertise to patients in their most critical moments. His compassion and skill left an enduring impact on every life he touched,” AMREF eulogised him.
