Two suspected chicken thieves set on fire in Kirinyaga as residents decry increase of livestock theft.

Two accused chicken thieves were set on fire by enraged residents of Kangai village in Mwea-west, Kirinyaga County on Sunday morning.

According to a resident in the area, the two were among three people who had stolen chicken among other things.  

An alarm was raised at around 3am and the residents responded instantly, setting ablaze the two as one managed to escape. 

Kirinyaga locals have lamented the rise in livestock and chicken theft incidents.

“We depend on livestock and we are worried over rising cases of theft in our region,” John Munene said. 

Meanwhile, the area assistant chief police from kangai police post speaking after the incident warned residents against taking law in their own hands. 

Remains of the two suspects were taken to Kerugoya hospital mortuary waiting identification.
