Azimio MP, Antony Oluoch arrested by plain-clothed police and taken to to an unknown location.

Mathare MP Antony Oluoch was on Thursday, July 20 arrested along Ngong Road by plain-clothed officers at around 8 pm.

The legislator was filling up his car when several plain-clothed officers approached and took him to an unknown location, according to a statement from Azimio la Umoja.

It was reported that the officers used a vehicle with Tanzanian number plates even as they demanded his immediate release.

“He was near Nakumatt Junction on Ngong Road. Several Subaru cars were spotted around the scene during the arrest” read the statement in part.

The incident was also confirmed by Philip Etale, Director of Communications for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), who also noted that the coalition was still looking for the lawmaker.

He guaranteed that the residents of Mathare and other Azimio lawmakers that they would be provided with timely updates.

The police have not officially commented on the arrest.

His arrest comes amid a series of arrests of Azimio lawmakers and close associates of Raila Odinga.

Meanwhile, Milimani High Court is expected to give its ruling on the detention of Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino and Bunge la Wananchi leader Calvin Okoth alias Gaucho later in the day.

The duo alongside other 8 individuals were charged with conspiracy to commit subversive activities.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina also directed that Owino be taken to hospital for treatment following the request of his lawyers.

“The first accused Owino) will be escorted to the hospital for medical attention. The rest of the accused persons will be remanded at Kileleshwa Police Station until tomorrow,” the magistrate ruled.
