Arsenal issues injury update with Gabriel Jesus doubtful for Leeds clash

Arsenal issues injury update ahead of Leeds clash with Gabriel Jesus doubtful to feature in the starting lineup.

Arsenal have a few injury concerns ahead of their Premier League clash with Leeds United on Sunday, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko missing their game against Bodo/Glimt

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that striker Gabriel Jesus could miss the Gunners’ upcoming game against Leeds United, as the Brazilian continues to recover from the injury he suffered last weekend.

Jesus, who has scored five goals so far this season, suffered a blow to the head following a clash with Virgil van Dijk in Arsenal’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool and was forced to miss his side’s 1-0 Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt in midweek.

Now it seems Arteta could be forced to wait even longer before he can call on the 25-year-old again, with Jesus considered a major doubt for Sunday’s clash at Elland Road.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Arteta said: “I don’t know, obviously he has some discomfort after the game against Liverpool.

“That’s why we decided not to bring him in [to Norway], so let’s see how he is tomorrow and Saturday.”

Other Arsenal injury update

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Zinchenko suffered a knock to his knee in late August before briefly returning to action against Manchester United.

He then picked up a calf injury in Arsenal training and has struggled to stay match-fit since. The Ukraine international, again, returned to action in the North London Derby but missed the clash with Liverpool after his calf caused him a few issues.

Arteta said the club are monitoring him and will be looking to not give him too much too soon with regard to physical workload.

Expected return date: Unknown

Emile Smith Rowe

Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe has struggled to get his season underway so far, suffering with injury from pre-season before making his return from the bench against Manchester United.

That didn’t last too long, though, with the winger struggling with another knock in the warm-down.

The England international has since undergone surgery which is set to keep him on the sidelines for an extended period, with no return date set as of this moment – though he looks set to miss out on a shot at the World Cup with England.

Expected return date: Unknown

Mohamed Elneny

Mohamed Elneny is suffering from a hamstring injury which he picked up against Fulham last month. It’s likely to keep him out until roughly the new year, with Arteta describing the injury as “long-term”.

With a busy fixture schedule ahead, the Gunners will be keen to have the Egypt international involved once again, though there is no return date currently set for the midfielder.
