Arsenal looking to complete fourth signing as Arteta is urged to add two more signings

Arsenal looking to complete a fourth signing this summer transfer window as Arteta is urged to add two more signings.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Arsenal is attempting to close a deal as quickly as possible for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.

The Argentine is believed to be manager Mikel Arteta’s top target, and O’Rourke believes he will be eager to close the deal because Manchester United will be vying for his attention.

In addition, Telegraph reports that Arsenal have made an offer for Martinez that is worth around £40m.

The same source claims Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who worked with the center-back at Ajax, also wants to sign the player.

Martinez, 24, is reportedly Arsenal’s top defensive target this summer, and the Gunners appear to be the ones making the most of this.

Arsenal looking to complete the deal

O’Rourke believes the last thing Arsenal will want is Martinez being in a position where he can choose between the north London club and United.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “Arsenal and Arteta will be desperate to try and push this deal closer to prevent anybody coming to get him because they don’t want it to come down to a decision for the player between Arsenal and Manchester United. They would like to get the deal wrapped up as soon as possible.”

Kevin Campbell urges for two signings

Meanwhile, former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has urged the club to sign another midfielder and striker following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus.

However, despite the additions of Jesus and Vieira, Campbell still thinks Arteta could do with more options in central midfield and up top.

‘They’ve got to fix the midfield, it needs more goals, it needs more creativity, hence [Youri] Tielemans,’ he told talkSPORT.

‘I still think Arsenal needs an alternative striker, a big striker, someone who, when teams bank up and it’s not going so well, someone who you could fire crosses in, and he can get on the end of it.

‘I think Arsenal have missed that change of alternative in the set up and the flexibility of Jesus as well means he could start as a nine or he can play wide, he’s comfortable anywhere.’

Tielemans has been linked to the Emirates for some time and seems destined to leave Leicester this summer with the Belgian refusing to extend his contract that expires next year, although United are also in the race to sign him.
