The Australian High Commission in Kenya has warned the public against fraudulent employment and visa-related schemes that falsely claim association with its officers.

In an advisory issued on Thursday, January 29, the Commission described the advertisements as misleading and fraudulent, noting that they often target vulnerable job seekers looking to migrate to Australia.

“Any employment advertisement claiming that an officer at the Australian High Commission can assist with securing a job or obtaining a visa for Australia is fraudulent. Do not engage,” the statement read.

The Commission emphasised that no staff member is authorised to facilitate job placements or process visas on behalf of individuals.

According to the Commission, individuals listed in the advertisements are not staff of the High Commission, and any engagement with them could result in financial loss, identity theft, or other forms of exploitation.

“Officers at the Australian High Commission are not authorised to facilitate employment opportunities or assist with visa applications,” the statement added.

Also, the High Commission warned that official emails from the mission will always end with .gov.au, meaning they were from the government of Australia. It warned the public to report any suspicious agencies promising them opportunities in Australia.

The Australian High Commission in Nairobi provides official services related to visa applications, citizenship, and consular assistance for Australians in Kenya. The services are strictly conducted through authorised channels, including the Commission’s official website and verified visa application centres.

The warning comes amid a rise in online scams targeting Kenyans seeking opportunities abroad, particularly in countries such as Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Fraudsters often use social media platforms and messaging apps to promote fake job offers, demanding upfront payments for supposed visa facilitation.
