Autopsy reveals what killed Gichugu Returning Officer Geoffrey Gitobu after he collapsed and died in Nanyuki.

The autopsy on the body of Gichugu Returning Officer Geoffrey Gitobu, 56, has ruled out foul play in his death.

Geoffrey Gitobu, a 56-year-old Gichugu returning officer, had an autopsy performed on his body, and it found no signs of foul play.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officer Gitobu passed away as a result of a blood clot in a pulmonary artery, according to the postmortem performed on his body on Wednesday, August 24.

Additionally, the deceased had anemia, a condition in which there are fewer red blood cells or their hemoglobin concentration is lower than usual.

The study also stated that Gitobu’s body was free of any obvious injuries.

The autopsy was conducted at the Nanyuki Cottage Hospital morgue by pathologists Dr. Simon Amok, Dr. Ayub Macharia, and Dr. Harrison Kiambati. Family and friends were present during the exercise.

“Based on our external examination of the deceased, there were no struggle marks or injuries,” the pathologists said in their statement.

Confirming the postmortem report, Laikipia County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Onesmus Towett said Gitobu died of pulmonary embolism.

“Based on the pathologists’ report, we can say that Gitobu died of natural causes. However, before we make a final conclusion, we asked that samples from his body be taken to the government chemist for conclusive tests,” Towett said.

Mr. Gitobu died a week after announcing the election results of the Gichugu constituency.

This was the second death of a Returning Officer after that of Embakasi East, Daniel Musyoka who was also found dead in Kajiado county.
