Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition has planned a grand procession to welcome its leader Raila Odinga from Dubai with a series of rallies.
Opposition leaders and supporters have been mobilized to give the ODM boss who has been out of the country for one week a heroic welcome even as the opposition gears up for the return of mass action next week.
The procession from JKIA will culminate in a major rally in the city on Friday, ahead of the resumption of the opposition’s anti-government protests next Tuesday.
Raila has been in Dubai for the past week.
National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi said Azimio will unleash the opposition’s scheduled activities for next month during the Kibra rally.
“As a party, we are gearing to accord him a grand welcome on arrival at the JKIA, then join him in a grand procession to the people’s Baraza at the Kamkunji Grounds, Kibra Constituency, on the same day. The Rt. Hon. Odinga will address the nation at the said meeting,” the Ugunja town MP said on Wednesday.

“We appeal to all supporters of our quest for a just, fair, and democratic nation that prioritizes its citizens, to turn up in large numbers and welcome Rt. Hon Odinga home and attend the Kibra rally. We further appeal to everyone attending the twin events to maintain peace and order as we have done in the past. ”
Mr Odinga’s return comes in the wake of uncertainty surrounding the bipartisan talks between the opposition and government meant to address the political crisis in the country.
On Tuesday, the talks hit a snag with the Azimio side announcing that they stand suspended until the contentious issue on the composition of the committee is addressed.
However, the government team said the talks were only adjourned to allow for further consensus before a way forward is issued, probably on Friday.
