Azimio youth laments after after being shortchanged over Uhuru offer

Gaucho slams Azimio for not helping him meet former President Uhuru Kenyatta after he offered to meet him

Gaucho slams Azimio for not helping him meet former President Uhuru Kenyatta after he offered to meet him.

On May 30, Bunge la Wananchi leader Calvin Okoth alias Gaucho criticized Azimio La Umoja for inaction in fulfilling former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s offer to meet him and buy him lunch.

After being released from jail, Gaucho complained lack of assistance from any of the Raila Odinga-led faction’s leaders to help him meet Uhuru.

Gaucho explained that Uhuru – being a former President – could not be approached easily given his security detail, and thus anyone outside Azimio’s leadership had to act via a middleman.

“Uhuru expressed interest in meeting me. Nobody has shown any interest in making that happen and they know very well that I cannot just go and see him being a former head of state,” he stated.

Gaucho referred to remarks by Uhuru on May 22 during the Jubilee party National Delegates Conference (NDC) at Ngong Racecourse, where the retired president offered to appreciate him for supporting the party during the attempted takeover by EALA MP Kanini Kega.

“I am thankful to the youth who went to defend their party. That Gaucho they have been talking about, if I see him again, I will buy you lunch. Don’t worry,” Uhuru offered then.

In addition, he called out Raila’s co-principals in Azimio, arguing that they ignored the members of Bunge la Wananchi who were apprehended during and after the anti-government demonstrations.

Gaucho expressed his pain, adding that former Mungiki boss Maina Njenga was represented much better in court, unlike his members, who were more vibrant during the demonstrations.

However, he absolved the ODM boss of any blame. According to Gaucho, Raila was surrounded by leaders unwilling to assist the budding politicians.

“When Maina Njenga is apprehended, close to four principals were there, but we are ignored and treated as second-class members when apprehended. It is really painful because we were the first to start this revolution.

“Some of our people are still in police custody while others are already in prison. If I can beg to be helped out of all, what about the others who are not known?” Gaucho wondered.

Consequently, the Bunge la Wanachi leader demanded a change in the opposition, or they considered their role in the Azimio protests.

“If you don’t change, then you better wish for the bipartisan talks to work out because if you call demonstrations, we shall only wish you luck,” he stated.

Gaucho was released on a Ksh20,000 bond after being charged with creating a disturbance.
