Embakasi East MP Babu Owino re-arrested/ abducted by police at Milimani Law Courts while waiting for the processing of his cash bail

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino re-arrested/ abducted by police at Milimani Law Courts while waiting for the processing of his cash bail.

The police re-arrested the embattled lawmaker while he awaited his family to process his monetary bail.

His legal team confirmed the re-arrest, but they do not know what would have prompted the police to make this latest move.

The Babu Owino legal team claimed their client was whisked away by the police while they were at the registry processing the KSh 100,000 bail.

The lawyers claimed they were chased away by the police from the registry, where they made arrangements for Babu’s release.

“We have been chased away from the registry where we had gone to pay the cash bail. I have the cash bail here,” one lawyer said. Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru said; “You can imagine somebody who was within the jurisdiction of the court, somebody who the court had granted the bail, has been whisked away without processing the bail.”

Lawyers lamented that police officers had taken over the courtrooms, preventing them from executing their legal mandate.

Before the latest incident, Babu Owino had claimed that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations had hatched a plan to arrest him immediately after his bail was posted.

In a video, Babu alleged that detectives from DCI headquarters and the Nairobi area are in the court waiting to take him once his bail is posted.

The Embakasi East MP said the police can proceed with their plan but he shall triumph in the end.

“We are just done with our court process and I’ve been released on cash bail and as we speak, CID from DCI headquarters and Nairobi area are all here waiting to rearrest me if I leave the police cells. So anytime from now, they are planning to arrest me but we shall continue fighting. Bungei we know your plans just proceed with them,” Babu says in the video.

Babu is currently being held at the Milimani law courts cells awaiting to have his bail posted.
