Embakasi East MP Babu Owino decries being detained in Tanzania during his recent visit.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has opened up about his recent troubles while traveling within the East African Community (EAC).
The lawmaker claimed that he was detained in Tanzania upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam.
During an interview, the outspoken lawmaker alleged that Tanzanian immigration officials put him in custody, citing his presence on the country’s red-alert list linked to Interpol’s Wanted List.
Babu expressed shock and frustration at the unexpected detention, questioning why he was flagged as a wanted person despite never committing any crime in Tanzania.
“I went to Tanzania. Do you know what happened when I arrived at Dar es Salaam Airport? When I presented my passport for clearance at immigration, they wrote, “Interpol Wanted List.” I was not allowed to enter Tanzania. I was detained there for three hours because they claimed I was on Tanzania’s Interpol Wanted List,” Babu claimed.
The MP, known for his firebrand politics, humorously defended his innocence, using the symbolism of a chicken.
“I said, I have never even stolen a chicken here, what is the problem?” Babu shared.

Babu further claimed that he has also been barred from entering Uganda, which may stem from his support for the opposition.
Despite his tribulations, Babu remained defiant, downplaying the impact of his alleged ban.
He dismissed the idea that he needs anything from Tanzania, stating that he still has much to explore in Kenya. “When I go to Uganda, I am banned, I cannot step into Uganda.
But honestly, do I even need anything in Tanzania? What do I need in Tanzania that I cannot find in Kenya? I have not even travelled across the whole of Kenya yet. What do I need in Tanzania?” Babu posed.
