Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino break silence over the impeachment proceedings against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Babu emerged to clear the air after Kenyans questioned his whereabouts explaining that the entire exercise was a waste of time, although his colleagues turned out in their numbers and overwhelmingly voted to impeach Gachagua. 281 lawmakers supported the motion.
The legislator insisted that there are more serious issues of importance like the recent proposed takeover of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA) by the Adani Holdings Group and the high cost of living that the lawmakers should direct their energy to.
He added that Kenyans needed to focus on issues surrounding the education funding models and the high unemployment rates that the youth are facing in the country.
‘’How can I waste my precious whole day discussing Rigathi yet we have serious issues like Adani, new university funding model, Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), high cost of living, high taxation, unemployment among others,’’ Owino asserted.
The vocal lawmaker maintained that he would stay away from Parliament chambers if non-issues are being debated, urging that he would only make an appearance when issues of importance are discussed in the house.
He added that he took his time to engage on important issues affecting his constituency during the impeachment debate, pointing out that it was the sole reason for his absence from the chambers.

Owino, as a result, urged other lawmakers to make it a habit of attending to issues affecting Kenyans with the same urgency and speed that they employed in the impeachment process against the Deputy President.
”You’ll see me in parliament when these issues are presented but they will not bring them. I was highly engaged with other important and urgent matters affecting my constituents. The speed with which Rigathi was impeached should be the same speed used to solve Kenyans challenges,’’ he added.
Babu Owino was among the lawmakers who skipped the voting exercise. Others were Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris and her Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro whose silence in the entire saga baffled Kenyans.
Gachagua’s fate as the Deputy President now hangs in the balance after 281 members of the house supported the impeachment motion, in a voting exercise that extended late into the evening. Only 44supportedhim while one abstained.
