Babu Owino claims police drove locked him up without food and water for 3 days after arrest at JKIA.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino recounted his experience with police on Sunday, July 23, for the first time since his arrest and subsequent release.
The lawmaker claimed that after being detained on Tuesday, July 18, at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), he was exposed to cruel treatment.
Babu Owino claimed that for the three days he was held without being charged, police officials denied him food.
“I was handcuffed, blindfolded and thrown in the boot of a Subaru car. I was driven into the middle of nowhere and put in solitary confinement for three days.
“For the period, I was not given food, no access to my family and my legal representative,” he narrated.
The lawmaker explained that during his three days of imprisonment, he did not take a shower or a drink.
Babu Owino detailed that if a parliamentarian could be treated so, it meant that ordinary Kenyans were being subject to more inhumane treatment.
The MP insisted that he was innocent and that the only reason he had been detained was because he had been advocating for Kenyans’ rights.
The MP for Embakasi East explained that he was unfazed by the torture and will keep with his anti-government demonstrations.

“I am the voice of the voiceless. You can kill the messenger but not the message. I will make sure I continue fighting for the downtrodden,” he vowed.
He explained that his arrest and other opposition politicians would only work to catalyse anti-government protests.
The vocal MP vowed to continue opposing the government until the cost of living and prices of basic commodities were brought down.
Babu Owino further castigated the government for alleging that Azimio Leader Raila Odinga was to be blamed for the loss of lives and destruction of property during protests.
“Raila did not give instructions to the police to use brutal force or extrajudicial means to gag the people,” he noted.
