Kenya Road Board chairperson and former Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Aisha Jumwa, has suffered a setback after the Kilifi High Court rejected her application to stop the circulation of a viral audio recording.
On Thursday, the Kilifi High Court denied Jumwa’s request to stop circulating a viral audio recording allegedly featuring her insulting a resident.
The clip, which dates back to 2016, has resurfaced and is circulating on social media. Jumwa claims its recent circulation is damaging her public image ahead of the 2027 Kilifi gubernatorial race.
The court, for the second time, found no urgency in her application for an injunction, setting the matter for a full hearing on September 10th, 2025.
Supporters of Kilifi Governor Gideon Mungaro, who were present at the court, accused Jumwa of using legal action to silence political critics.
Several women condemned Jumwa’s legal move against those sharing the video.

“These things you brought to yourself. You have insulting, bitter words towards your people. How are we to take you as women when you insult us? You are using the court to fight the youths? We warn you to stop with your insulting behavior,” one woman said.
Several women who spoke outside the court condemned Jumwa’s decision to pursue legal action against those sharing the video.
“Taking youths to court is not the right move. This could have been solved in other ways. Someone corrects her, and she takes us to court. She is not even a governor yet, so when will she become governor? She will jail us all,” another resident said.
Several people, mostly youths, who shared and circulated the recording have been arrested for its distribution.
“Stop misusing the court. If you put those words out yourself, getting youths arrested for sharing the clip is low. We are not buying fear,” another woman said.
The audio recording was made in 2016 when Jumwa was captured insulting a Kilifi resident. The clip has recently resurfaced and gained traction on social media platforms.
