Bodies of MP Ngeno, five others ‘burned beyond recognition’ – MTRH
The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) says the body of Emurua Dikirr constituency MP Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno, along with five others who died in a chopper crash in Nandi, was extensively burned and damaged beyond recognition.
CEO of the hospital, Dr Philip Kirwa, said none of the bodies could be easily identified because of the extent of the damage.
“The bodies are in a very bad shape and cannot even be viewed at the moment,” said Kirwa.
He added that specialists would work on the bodies before viewing is allowed. He spoke at the morgue, where the bodies were taken for preservation following the accident in Nandi.
A sombre mood engulfed the morgue as leaders and hundreds of people turned up to receive the bodies.
They were led by Governors Jonathan Bii, Stephen Sang, and Wisley Rotich, along with Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and several MPs.
The bodies were wrapped in body bags and transported in a police Land Rover, escorted by ambulances and other rescue vehicles.
Cherargei, who was among the first to arrive at the scene, described what he saw as heartbreaking.

“I could just imagine the pain Ngeno and his team went through. It is so sad,” said Cherargei.
The leaders praised Ngeno as an MP who defended the weak in society and spoke his mind openly. The governors and MPs also commended the MP for the work he did to support artists in the region.
“He has died on his way from supporting one of the artists, and we have lost a great leader,” said Bii.
President William Ruto has expressed profound shock and sadness over the passing of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno, who died in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County.
The President described Ng’eno as “a progressive and devoted servant of the people who worked tirelessly on behalf of the residents of Emurua Dikirr, Narok County.”
“He was focused, vocal, and fearless; a leader who stood firmly for justice and equity for all,” President Ruto said, highlighting the MP’s dedication to his constituents.
