Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has come to the aid of Ian Njoroge in a fundraiser to raise money for teen’s medical and legal bills.

In a post shared on X, the activist stated that Njoroge had suffered a broken jaw while in police custody.

Mwangi explained that the teenager would spend the weekend at the Industrial Area Remand Prison since bond placement is a process.

“If you use a title deed or a log book for bond, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) must help the court verify the document’s authenticity,” he stated.

He revealed that the collected cash would be used to settle the young lad’s medical and legal fees.

“Ian Njoroge is traumatized by what the police did to him. Broken jaw and wrist. He will spend the weekend at the Industrial Area Remand. I’m sharing his number with his consent. You can use it to send contributions to support his medical and legal bills. M-PESA: 0745 723 573,” he said.

Milimani chief principal magistrate Ben Ekhubi said the prosecution’s arguments to deny Ian’s bond were unconvincing.

The magistrate said that the prosecution failed to present any evidence that Ian’s life would be in danger if released.

The court released the 19-year-old TUK student on a KSh 700,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.

Earlier, Ian’s lawyers, led by Dancun Okatch, decried their client’s mistreatment by the police, whom they accused of breaking his ribs and jaws to the point he could not eat.

He added that the officers who arrested Njoroge at his mother’s home molested him, causing him to faint twice from the pain.

Okatch also spoke of the videos and pictures the officers took while assaulting Njoroge, emphasizing that they also verbally abused him.
