Boys erroneously placed in a girls' school in grade 10 placement
Two grade 10 learners in Cardinal Otunga Boys High School in Mosocho town, Kisii County who were erroneously placed in a girls’ school in Bungoma, have finally been rerouted and admitted to the right school after the matter was resolved.
Speaking to the press at Cardinal Otunga Boys High School, the Deputy Principal Academics, Albert Tani, said the two learners had been erroneously placed at Cardinal Otunga Girls School in Bungoma County.
“The successful review of the placement process is a plus because the pressure the parents had concerning the issue has already been sorted,” Tani explained.

During the occasion, Tani revealed that 72 of the 82 teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) at Cardinal Otunga High School had also undergone the retooling exercise during the school holidays ahead of the senior school transition.
“We have enough facilities in the three pathways, and so far, almost 70% of those who have reported are under the STEM pathway,” pointed out the Deputy Principal Academics.
He added the school had liaised with the neighbouring Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to ensure the technical subjects without teachers were catered for.
Speaking separately at Sameta High School in Gucha Sub County, Admissions Teacher Justus Mauti said they had sent a request to the Ministry to review placement of some learners who had admission letters to the school, but their details were missing from the portal.
Mauti, who is also in charge of sports, noted some requests had been rejected and urged the Ministry to review and reconsider the learners who had already reported to the school.
The school’s Head of Department for Social Sciences, Evans Ondiba, affirmed that their teachers have been adequately retooled and they were fully prepared to teach the grade 10 learners.
