Nakuru College students stage demonstrations, barricade the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway over the institution’s mismanagement.

Learning at the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RIST) located in Nakuru was paralyzed on Friday, June 7, after students staged demonstrations.

While demonstrating, the students accused the college administration of mismanaging the school and depriving them of essential activities.

In particular, the learners faulted the administration for failing to address critical issues such as inadequate classrooms, and furniture.

In the process of demanding action, the angry protestors barricaded the Nakuru – Eldoret Highway causing a huge traffic snarl-up on the busy road.

Even as the demonstrations escalated, an altercation emerged between the students and villagers who attempted to contain the furious learners.

Police officers pelted tear gas canisters as they attempted to scatter the demonstrators who were armed with stones and other crude weapons.

In the widely circulated videos, students are seen scampering for safety as police officers ran after them.
