Choas as Kisii County Assembly Members trade barbs over alleged push to impeach Governor Simba Arati

Choas as Kisii County Assembly Members trade barbs over alleged push to impeach Governor Simba Arati.

The exchange was triggered by the woes bedeviling Kisii Governor Simba Arati, after General Service Unit (GSU) officers raided his office at Gusii Stadium on Monday, October, 30.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MCAs accused their United Democratic Alliance (UDA) colleagues during the session of attempting to impeach the governor in a past session, which resulted in a shouting altercation.

“There are honorable members who want to take us behind, that they want to impeach the Governor, we dare you, bring it on,” one of the ODM MCAs stated during the session.

“The GSU officers raided the Governor’s office and ransacked it, without notice nor did they have a search warrant to that effect,” another MCA stated.

The ODM MCAs denounced the mistreatment inflicted upon Governor Arati, asserting that the government is abusing security services for political purposes.

The MCAs affiliated to ODM further called for further investigations asking the national government to tighten security at the county chief’s residences and offices to stop a repeat of the same in the future.

Following the declarations made by the ODM MCAs, the UDA MCAs, who were seated across the aisle, refuted the accusations.

At this point, some of the MCAs started vacating the chambers while others remained in the house hurling more insults.

This comes after GSU officers surrounded Arati’s office at Gusii Stadium on Monday, October 30, and blocked the Governor from accessing the premises.

ODM and Azimio coalition condemned the siege and asked to desist from what the party described as harassing Governors.

Azimio further claimed that police were planning to raid Simba Arati’s private residences.
