Charles Kanjama elected new LSK President with 3,728 votes
Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama has been elected President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) after garnering 3,728 votes in a competitive race that attracted nationwide attention within the legal fraternity.
According to the final tally, Kanjama secured a decisive lead over his closest rival, Peter Wanyama, who received 2,616 votes. Current LSK Vice President Mwaura Kabata finished third with 2,086 votes.
The closely contested election saw advocates from across the country participate in the voting exercise, underscoring the significance of the LSK leadership in shaping legal practice and policy in Kenya.
The results reflect a strong mandate for Kanjama – who now takes over from outgoing President Faith Odhiambo – as he prepares to steer the society for the upcoming 2026/2028 term.
During the campaign period, the candidates outlined differing visions on key issues affecting advocates, including welfare of members, protection of the independence of the Bar, rule of law, and engagement with State institutions.

With his victory, Kanjama is expected to assume leadership of a powerful professional body that plays a critical role in defending constitutionalism, human rights, and access to justice.
The LSK is also a key stakeholder in judicial reforms and legislative processes, often offering expert opinions on matters of public interest.
Transition arrangements are expected to commence immediately, with the formal handover taking place in accordance with the society’s regulations.
