Chelsea in advanced Cucurella talks after hijacking transfer deal from Man City
Chelsea in advanced Cucurella talks after hijacking transfer deal from Man City as they meet £50m fee demand.
Under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, Chelsea are still reshaping their squad, and manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly still interested in signing two more defensive players.
They have been following Leicester’s Wesley Fofana, though prising him away from the King Power Stadium will prove a tough ask given the Foxes’ £70m valuation.
And now, reports have emerged that Chelsea talks with Brighton over a move for full-back Marc Cucurella.
The Blues have long been tracking Cucurella, who came through the Barcelona academy and impressed at Getafe before joining Brighton in 2021.
Cucurella’s potential transfer to Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola is a major fan, is reported to have been halted by Brighton’s insistence on a £50 million valuation for the 24-year-old.
Given the prolonged Manchester City interest, Cucurella is rumored to be open to a move to Chelsea.
The Spain star has already indicated his desire for a new challenge.
Cucurella may at that time have assumed he would be off to Manchester City before Chelsea hijacked the transfer.
Chelsea in advanced Cucurella talks
Sky Sports now claim talks over a deal for Cucurella have reached an ‘advanced’ stage and that Chelsea are willing to meet Brighton’s £50m demand.
Fabrizio Romano’s latest update added Chelsea are ‘confident’ over reaching an agreement with Cucurella.
Seemingly, his desire to join Man City above all others can be overcome and a contract proposal is now being prepared.
Chelsea have already pulled off big-name signings in Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly but are determined to add further new faces to the squad.
