Chelsea makes a breakthrough Mason Mount contract deal after disagreements
Chelsea confident of tieing Mason Mount to a new deal despite him rejecting a 7-year contract according to reports.
Ever since he graduated from Chelsea’s renowned Cobham academy, Mount has been an important player.
Mount was able to obtain significant experience playing senior football through loan stints with Vitesse and Derby County, both of which were managed by Chelsea icon Frank Lampard. So far, it has paid off.
Contract negotiations have been postponed until January as Mount will be traveling to the World Cup with England, but according to The Athletic, Chelsea are growing more optimistic that a new contract will be signed early in the next year despite his rejection of a seven-year offer.
According to the source, Chelsea has made progress in the wake of previous pay disputes, which will please the Stamford Bridge faithful.
The Athletic’s report, citing anonymous club sources supposedly risking their jobs in bringing us this Bothan Spies-level information, claims that “a positive breakthrough has been made” — as opposed to a negative breakthrough? — that “a significant step had been taken” and that “things could be concluded after another scheduled meeting takes place in January and that Mount will sign then”.
Mount’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season, and Chelsea won’t want a repeat of a situation that occurred in the summer.
Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both left the club during the summer transfer window, with Chelsea receiving no transfer fee due to allowing their contracts to expire.
