Chelsea owner Boehly changes plans over a new stadium as he commits to Stamford Bridge redevelopment
Chelsea owner Boehly changes plans over a new stadium as he commits to Stamford Bridge redevelopment.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has committed to a redevelopment of Stamford Bridge, abandoning plans for a move to a new stadium.
With Stamford Bridge’s present capacity of little under 42,000 significantly less than each of the other “Big Six” clubs in the Premier League, the west Londoners have been investigating proposals to relocate their stadium facilities in line with the division’s top clubs.
Chelsea’s ownership have now opted on an expansion project at their current home after having previously explored moving to a new location and building a 60,000-seater stadium in Earl’s Court.
According to the Mail, Chelsea are looking to obtain planning permission for the expansion of Stamford Bridge within the next 12 months.
The ownership’s decision was released in a statement, confirming the plans of the American investors to remain at their historical home.
The shareholder group that owns the London club’s stadium freehold, Chelsea Pitch Owners, said: “The new owners have committed to the redevelopment of the stadium.
“So it is anticipated the group’s workload will increase as this project begins to take shape.”
