Chelsea ownership in a mass clear out of expensive contracts with Jules Kounde set to undergo medical test next 48 hours
Chelsea ownership in a mass clear out of expensive contracts with Jules Kounde set to undergo medical test in the next 48 hours.
A new report by the Evening Standard has revealed what the new Chelsea ownership group is planning to do in this transfer window.
In particular, club administrators strive to balance the huge pay cost and compensation disparities within the squad.
Specific players named in the report include Mason Mount, Reece James, Edouard Mendy, Timo Werner, Conor Gallagher, Kepa Arrizabalaga, N’Golo Kante, Marcos Alonso, Jorginho, Michy Batshuayi, and Ross Barkley as people of interest with the club aiming to keep some and offload others.
According to the sources, Mount and James, who recently graduated from the academy, are two players that the new owners want to lock down.
Despite being important parts of the team and having gone through the club’s youth system, both players are allegedly among the lower paid players on the team.
Mendy was another player singled out for praise, as the team sought to close the pay gap between its first-choice goalie and his higher-paid backup, Arrizabalaga.
Conor Gallagher, an English midfielder, is another academy graduate who has been selected out for a larger deal.
Gallagher is being given the option to stay and compete for a spot in the team, and if he does, he may be given a better contract.
The particular statement from the article is quite critical, but the new Chelsea ownership group wants to get away of the overpriced and underwhelming additions made under the previous administration.
Werner and Arrizabalaga are two players whose names are immediately on the chopping board since they make a lot of money but haven’t performed well enough to merit it.
Looking ahead to 2023, it seems like upper management may be willing to let players like Kante, Barkley, and perhaps Alonso go.
The club’s owners are keeping a close watch on the future of the club’s finances and may be willing to make the difficult decisions that the previous administration was unable to, despite giving Thomas Tuchel a sizable budget and fresh acquisitions.
Jules Kounde signing
Chelsea want Jules Kounde and now look set to sign the Sevilla defender.
The Sun report that Chelsea have agreed to sign Kounde in a deal worth around £55million.
Kounde will allegedly undergo a medical in the next 48 hours as his move to Chelsea finally appears to be drawing nearer.
Kounde is even alleged to have spoken to Tuchel about the move to Stamford Bridge and personal terms are no problem.
The Frenchman has also supposedly accepted personal terms with the Blues and is ready to undergo a medical in the next 48 hours.
