Chelsea risk losing on Christopher Nkunku transfer ‘agreement’ after Real Madrid hijack

Chelsea risk losing on RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku transfer ‘agreement’ after Real Madrid hijacks £53m bid.

As Real Madrid enters the picture, Chelsea’s efforts to capture RB Leipzig sensation Christopher Nkunku may soon suffer a severe setback.

The 24-year-transfer old’s to Stamford Bridge was hotly rumored to happen in the summer but never happened.

Chelsea has a long-standing interest in Nkunku and was debating whether to make an approach in the summer, but Leipzig’s €100 million (£87.6 million) value turned them away.

The France international signed a two-year agreement at the Red Bull Arena in June, which raised questions about whether a transfer was likely.

However, it’s believed that a €60 million (£52.6 million) release clause, which goes into effect in the summer, was added to his contract, allowing Nkunku to go for far less than initially anticipated.

The Athletic reported last month that Todd Boehly had ‘agreed to pay’ the sum up front in order to avert the impending transfer fight.

Nkunku reportedly completed a physical and then signed a pre-contract agreement to join Chelsea in the summer.

Real Madrid, according to a Spanish report, are now in contention.

The Frenchman would reportedly consider disregarding interest from the Blues in order to secure a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, according to Spanish source El Nacional.

This report states that Nkunku is interested in playing with Vinicius Junior.

Despite the speculation regarding the Bundesliga star’s future, Leipzig boss Marco Rose has dismissed reports suggesting that his player has already agreed to leave. He said: “We don’t comment on speculation, we don’t care about it.”

Meanwhile, Leipzig teammate Dominik Szoboszlai doubled down. The Hungary international said: “I have the same answer as the coach. We don’t talk much about speculation. He knows that he is one of our players and that he has to do the best for us. We know that he does everything for the team will continue to do so.”

Nkunku has featured 21 times for the German side this season, directly contributing toward 18 goals. His impressive displays have made him one of Europe’s most in-form forwards.
