Chelsea won’t spend big this summer transfer, Todd Boehly warns
Chelsea won’t spend big this summer transfer window, New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has warned fans.
As Financial Fair Play continues to threaten their business, the new owner of Chelsea, Todd Boehly, has issued a warning to supporters that they will not be spending enormous sums of money to sign players this summer.
Boehly has the free transfer of Ousmane Dembele and the acquisition of Sevilla center-back Jules Kounde in mind, with Chelsea still optimistic that they can buy Kounde for somewhere around £50 million.
Although Boehly has cautioned that the club can only do so much this summer, there are still some areas where Chelsea supporters hope to see improvement.
Chelsea won’t spend big
“Financial Fair Play is starting to get some teeth and that will limit ability to acquire players at any price,” Boehly told Bloomberg. “UEFA takes it seriously and will continue to take it seriously. [More teeth] means financial penalties and disqualification from competitions.
“If you look at the models that are very successful, Liverpool is a great model. Liverpool generates a couple of hundred million more revenue than Chelsea and they generate earnings, so there is an opportunity to compete.”
Tuchel is anticipated to be given a budget of roughly £200 million, with additional monies obtained through player sales.
Inter are still in talks with Chelsea over a possible loan exit for striker Romelu Lukaku, who wants to return to Milan and has been granted permission to do so following a disappointing year at Stamford Bridge.
Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Christian Pulisic could all be moved to fund a revamp of Chelsea’s attack – Rafael Leao of AC Milan and Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich are also on the market.
There could also be exits for Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, both of whom want to join Barcelona.
