In a statement on Thursday, July 10, Chief Justice Martha Koome announced the death of Sheikh Hussein.

The Chief Kadhi of Kenya passed away while in Mombasa County, and the cause of the death is yet to be revealed.

“It is with deep sorrow and sadness that I announce the passing of the Chief Kadhi of Kenya, Sheikh AbdulHalim Hussein,” read CJ Koome’s statement in part.

The Chief Justice eulogised Sheikh Hussein as an individual who served Kenyans with dedication and humility.

Koome said the Chief Kadhi’s death is a great loss to the Judiciary and the whole country at large.

“Sheikh AbdulHalim Hussein served the Judiciary and the people of Kenya with unwavering dedication, humility, and integrity. As Chief Kadhi, he was a champion of justice, fairness and equity, particularly in matters of personal law within the Muslim community.

“His passing is a great loss not only to the Judiciary but to the entire country. We remember and honour him as a deeply spiritual and principled leader who championed peaceful coexistence, respect for diversity, and harmony in our society,” Koome stated.

Health CS Aden Duale has also mourned Sheikh Hussein, describing him as a great scholar and a humble, soft-spoken individual.

“He was a great scholar and leader of the ummah, humble and soft spoken, I miss a brother, O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, and give him strength and pardon him. Be generous to him, and enlarge his entrance (to his abode), and wash him with water and snow and hail,” said Duale.
