Chief Justice (CJ) Martha Koome has announced the death of Molo Law Courts Principal Magistrate Bernard Kipyegon Rugut.
In a statement on Tuesday, October 22, Koome hailed Rugut as diligent, fair and professional magistrate while undertaking his judicial duties.
“On behalf of the Judiciary, and on my own behalf, I wish to express our deepest condolences to his spouse, Hon. Purity Koskey Rugut of Kabarnet Law Courts, their children, the entire family, friends, and colleagues of Hon. Rugut during this profoundly difficult time,” the statement read in part.
According to Koome, Rugut began his career on July 13, 2022, when he was appointed as a Resident Magistrate and posted to Bondo Law Courts.
“Over the years, he served with steadfast dedication at various stations, including Ndhiwa and Kerichoaw Courts, consistently demonstrating a strong commitment to the principles of Justice,” the CJ further stated.
Rugut served as Principal Magistrate at the Molo Law Courts since May 2, 2023, according to Koome.
“Throughout his career, Rugut exemplified the virtues of diligence, fairness and professionalism in all his judicial duties. His passing is not only a significant laws to his family but also to the judiciary and the communities he faithfully served.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones as we moan the loss of a dedicated judicial officer whose legacy of service will continue to inspire us all. May his soul rest in eternal piece,” the statement concluded.
This comes just two days after Koome confirmed the passing of Milimani Commercial Court Resident Magistrate Zena Atetwe Rashid Jalenga.

“It is with a profound sense of loss and sadness that I announce the death of Hon. Zena Atetwe Rashid Jalenga, Resident Magistrate, Milimani Commercial Court, which occurred early in the morning of October 20, 2024, following a long illness bravely borne,” she remarked.
Koome stated that the late magistrate worked diligently and demonstrated a firm commitment to the rule of law while serving the nation.
“During her service in the judiciary, Hon. Rashid exhibited firm commitment to the cause of justice and the rule of law, working diligently and in keeping with the values of the Constitution in service to our nation,” she added.
Koome sent her condolences to the family and friends of the departed magistrate on behalf of the judiciary.
“On my own behalf and that of the judiciary fraternity, I extend heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and loved ones. We pray that the Almighty God graces us the fortitude to brave this difficult period and rests her soul in eternal peace,” she stated.
