Cleophas Malala accuses Natembeya of being Ruto’s agent in the United Opposition

DCP deputy leader Cleophas Malala has accused Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya of being dishonest in his undertakings in the opposition.

The bone of contention is the Kisa East ward by-election, which the DCP party negotiated with other opposition outfits to allow it to field its candidate.

This would be in reciprocation of the decision by DCP to withdraw its candidate in the Malava MP by-election in favour of the DAP-K candidate.

However, despite the arrangement, Natembeya, who is a ranking member in DAP-K, insists that the party must field its candidate in Kisa East ward, the prior arrangement to have the DCP candidate fly the United Opposition flag notwithstanding.

Reacting to Natembeya’s irreducible minimum, Malala termed him as a mole deployed by President William Ruto to divide the opposition.

“It is morally wrong for leaders in the United Opposition to rock the boat from inside. We have one enemy; the man who disregards the rule of law, fundamental human rights and continues to perpetuate corruption, nepotism and plunder of public resources in Kenya. His agents should consider themselves adequately notified,” Malala said.

In a direct offensive to Natembeya, the former Kakamega senator claimed the governor had been paid by the state, and contracted through the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to sabotage the opposition.

Malala wondered why Natembeya would work hard to reverse the strategies used by the United Opposition to win in the by-elections.

“The government has seen that the United Opposition will sweep these seats, it has taken one of us, George Natembeya, and splurged monies on him so that he can undermine our efforts so that the government can win. He has come all the way from Trans Nzoia to Kakamega to sow division,” Malala blasted the governor.

The opposition had resolved to partner in the November by-elections as a test run for their undertakings in the 2027 general election.

The parties within the faction agreed to allow viable candidates from their sister parties to vie in the by-elections to maximise their chances of success.

For instance, DCP gave up the Mbeere North MP by-election for DP, which is regarded as popular on the ground.

In Malava, the DAP-K candidate was found to have an upper hand, hence the decision by DCP to to withdraw its candidate.
