KAA takes action after travelers complain of extortion (bribes) of up to Ksh50,000 by JKIA staff before boarding.

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Chairman Caleb Kositany disclosed on Monday that the government was looking into allegations of bribery at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

This after Clay Onyango alleged that airport employees were demanding payment of up to Ksh 50,000 to let Kenyans go to Canada.

Onyango had said that travelers with tourist visa were harassed at the airport and asked to pay bribes in order to be allowed to board an airplane.

“Can someone help us to get Clay to respond? Any allegations made we take seriously and we will investigate thoroughly,” Kositany stated.

In screenshots shared by the KAA Chairman, it was evident that the airport authorities had been trying to contact Clay since Thursday, October 5.

This was a day after Clay made the bribery claims in a series of TikTok videos.

“My attention has been drawn to your recent TikTok video on harassment and bribery allegations at JKIA. We would like to pick up the issue and get to the bottom of it,” a staff from JKIA had told Clay.

Further, he requested more information from Clay about the claims that Kenyans with tourist visas were being denied travel to Toronto, Canada.

Clay did not respond to the JKIA staff but his socials showed that he continued to make allegations on the conduct of airport employees.
