Court issues arrest warrant against Juja MP George Koimburi

A Milimani Law court has issued a warrant of arrest against Juja MP George Koimburi after he failed to appear for plea-taking in a case where he is charged with conspiracy to defeat justice.

The warrant also applies to two other accused persons — identified as Peter (6th accused) and Njuguna alias Njugush (7th accused) — who similarly failed to present themselves in court.

Meanwhile, five other accused persons, including Juja Constituency Development Fund Chairperson Peter Kiratu Muhia and Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The accused are alleged to have conspired to stage-manage the abduction of MP George Koimburi to prevent his arrest and arraignment over land fraud charges filed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

The court maintained the earlier cash bail terms of KSh300,000 for those present and ordered that each must now provide three contact persons to be examined in court.

Defence lawyers requested the court to retain the existing bail conditions and sought the release of motor vehicles and mobile phones confiscated during the arrest of the accused persons.

However, the prosecution opposed the release of the seized items. State prosecutor Owiti also asked the court to formally issue arrest warrants for MP Koimburi and the two other accused who failed to appear.

“We are not opposed to bond for those who are present,” said Owiti. “But we pray that warrants of arrest are issued against the 1st accused, George Koimburi, the 6th accused Peter, and the 7th accused Njuguna alias Njugush.”

Koimburi is also facing a separate charge of publishing false information under Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.

The charge stems from a press statement he made on June 7, 2025, through a YouTube channel while at Karen Hospital, in which he claimed to have been abducted and tortured by unknown individuals. According to prosecutors, Koimburi knew the information was false and intended to incite public panic.

His co-accused, Peter Kiratu Muhia, faces an additional charge of giving false information to a police officer.

He allegedly reported that the MP had been abducted by unknown masked individuals after attending a church service at Full Gospel Church in Mugutha.

The case will be mentioned on August 5, 2025, for further directions.
