Relief for Judiciary Chief Registrar Ann Amadi as court unfreezes her bank accounts in the KSh100M gold scandal case.

The high court has set aside orders freezing personal bank accounts of Judiciary Chief Registrar Ann Amadi.

High court judge justice Alfred Mabeya in his ruling said that the orders against the registrar were made in bad faith as she is not running the law firm and she is not in private practice .

“She(Amadi) was not incharge of the law firm at the material time when the transactions made by her son . She should not carry the cross of her son who is an adult,” the ruling read in part.

“There is no evidence to show that the registrar was involved in day to today running of the firm, neither was there anyway she was either a beneficiary of the said funds or whether she participated in disbursements of the subject funds.”

Justice Mabeya said her son Brian Ochieng should carry his cross because he is an adult and the fact that Amadi is his mum does not mean she has to carry the burden on his behalf.

However, the judge dismissed the prayer by Amadi to strike out the case against her and two others – Brian Ochieng and another lawyer.

The judge said Amadi will remain a defendant in the case since Demetrios Bradshaw rightly sued her to show that the law firm is registered in her name.

In the case, Amadi, her son Ochieng, two other Kenyans and a Liberian citizen have been sued by Bruton Gold Trading LLC, over claims that it lost $742,206.

The firm claims that the money was meant to be for the purchase of gold bars which were never delivered to them in Dubai.
