Public Service CS Justin Muturi opens up after missing Cabinet meeting in Kakamega

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi was notably absent from the first cabinet meeting of the year, convened by President William Ruto at Kakamega State Lodge on Tuesday, January 21.

The president is currently in Kakamega county as part of a week-long development tour aimed at launching local infrastructure and reviving the Western Kenya sugar industry.

Muturi’s absence from the meeting has stirred considerable debate online, especially in light of his recent accusations against the government.

Muturi accused the President-Ruto led government, under which he is working, of abducting his son and failing to address the recent spate of abductions witnessed in the country.

He claimed that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director Noordin Haji was behind the abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, in mid-2024.

This revelation has placed Muturi at odds with his colleagues and has led to speculation about his standing within the administration.

However, Muturi might not have been invited to the Cabinet meeting, suggesting a possible tension or fallout within the government ranks.

When asked about his absence, Muturi did not provide a direct response but instead advised journalists to seek clarification from Secretary to the Cabinet, Mercy Wanjau.

“Please confirm from the secretary to the cabinet…,” Muturi wrote.

President Ruto, or his office, has not publicly addressed or commented on Muturi’s absence, leaving many unsure of the meaning of his silence.
