Baringo County Commissioner, Sangolo Kutwa’s car was on Monday February 12, accosted by bandits and sprayed with bullets.
The car was the lead vehicle in a police convoy which was conducting a security operation mission in the Kanga Joto area when it encountered bandits who shot at it.
One police reservist sustained injuries in the Monday evening attack and is currently recuperating at a local hospital.
The Baringo County Police Commander, Julius Kiragu, reported that the bandits masqueraded as cattle herders, taking cover behind their herd and shooting at the convoy.
Reports from the commissioner confirmed that the security enforcement team was acting in response to a Saturday attack in Kagir that left a headteacher dead.

“We have been on an operation to apprehend those who committed the heinous act, we condemn the action,” Kutwa stated.
Further, Kutwa noted that the security operation was being beefed up after the worrying trend of banditry attacks shifting from cattle rustling activities to the random killing of residents.
Speaking on the incident, Kutwa also urged Pokot leaders to migrate the cattle herds to areas which are not affected by the banditry attacks to avert more loss of life.
The slain headteacher was a passenger on a motorcycle with his wife and child where he was shot in the head, resulting in his death.
His wife and child are nursing critical injuries that they sustained in the attack.
