DCI busts Al-Shabaab network in Eastleigh

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced the foiling of a major terror network after recovering a significant consignment of suspected Al-Shabaab combat uniforms in an intelligence-led operation carried out on Wednesday morning at the KBS Garage area in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

According to the detectives, officers from DCI Starehe and the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) seized a total of 11 bales, each containing 60 full camouflage uniforms and 120 t-shirts, being operated under an extensive terror supply chain that was intended for the militants’ activities within the East African region.

During the operation, following earlier intelligence leads from Jubaland, an additional bale of 65 uniforms and 120 t-shirts was also recovered, with the shipments traced to China and delivered through a local parcel delivery service in Eastleigh.

“The operation was triggered by earlier intelligence following a critical interception in Dhobley on 6th April 2026. On that date, Jubaland Security Forces (JSF) seized twenty-five (25) bales packed with suspected Al-Shabaab full camouflage uniforms, an alarming discovery that pointed to a wider cross-border supply chain,” DCI announced.

The operation was prompted by an earlier operation in Dhobley (Lowe Jubaland), where the local forces discovered the initial supply chain. They then informed Kenyan security operatives that the supply chain could extend to Nairobi.

On hearing this, DCI and ATPU launched investigations which unravelled a complex terror supply network which traced the part of the shipment to Eastleigh, Nairobi, to a local parcel service located along 12th Street within the KBS area.

However, upon arrival at the parcel station, detectives found that they had been stored at a neighbouring parcel service due to limited space at the initial centre.

The manager of the original parcel service was later arraigned for the temporary storage of the consignment after receiving it from an individual identified as Sharif.

The detectives, however, did not stop at this point. The ATPU officers proceeded to a cargo company at Soma Towers in Eastleigh, believed to have facilitated the importation of another larger batch of 37 bales of Al-Shabaab uniforms.

The cargo is reported to have originated from China and entered the country through the Port of Mombasa under the guise of consolidated shipments.

An employee of the cargo firm has since been linked with the shipment’s clearance and coordination and is now at the centre of the investigations.

The DCI and the ATPU secured the recovered items as exhibits and placed several suspects in custody.

“All recovered items have been secured and properly documented as exhibits. Several key suspects are currently in custody under ATPU, assisting with ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling the entire network behind the operation,” the police report detailed.
