DCI links Sakaja to international organized crime

DCI links Sakaja to an international organized crime following a controversy surrounding his degree certificate.

George Kinoti, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ head, has now stated that they are looking into whether Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja is a member of an international crime organization.

On Friday, June 17, Kinoti told Nation Africa that they intend to file a lawsuit against Sakaja if he is found guilty of falsifying his university documents.

“We will not surrender our capital city to frauds. We will involve all international agencies in investigating and prosecuting anyone involved in academic fraud,” Kinoti told Nation.

The DCI is investigating how Sakaja obtained his papers in Uganda and the involvement of top officials from the institutions in order to ascertain the degree’s authenticity.

According to the law, any person found guilty of forgery is liable to face an imprisonment term of three years.

This is after the Commission for University Education (CUE) revoked the recognition of Sakaja’s degree.

However, UDA party leader, Deputy President William Ruto defended Sakaja’s academic papers linking his woes to some deep government forces.

Meanwhile, the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair Wafula Chebukati, is yet to make the final decision on the issue.
