Two people perished in a tragic crash on the James Gichuru Rironi highway in the Kikuyu sub-county on Saturday morning, April 6.
This after a 60-seater bus belonging to Eldoret Express rammed into a fuel tanker on the road.
Confirming the accident, Kikuyu Sub-County Police Commander Ronald Kirui said 10 others were critically injured and were admitted to hospital following the early morning accident.
The bus headed to Nairobi from Nakuru hit the tanker which had parked by the road.
The fatalities’ bodies were booked into the P.C.E.A Thogoto Hospital morgue.
According to the police, flooding from the ongoing rains was a contributory factor to the accident.
Kirui called on the motorists to exercise care while plying the roads.
Meanwhile, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) issued a public warning announcing the immediate closure of another major highway due to flooding.
In the notice issued on Saturday, April 6, KeNHA indicated that North Horr – Kalacha (B75) Road has been rendered impassable due to heavy rains experienced in Marsabit and Ethiopian Highlands.

The road serves Marsabit residents and other border towns in the area. It is also a major route for trucks transporting goods to neighbouring countries.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority notifies the public that North Horr – Kalacha (B75) Road has been closed. This has been occasioned by flooding in the area resulting from the ongoing heavy rains in Marsabit County and the Ethiopian Highlands,” KeNHA stated.
The authority advised motorists to avoid using the road until further advised. From videos shared by the authority, the road was completely covered by flowing rainwater.
Road signs and demarcations were also covered by the flooding water making it hard for motorists to drive on that road.
However, KeNHA vowed to assess the damage and carry out immediate repairs before allowing the resumption of traffic flow.
